One of the best things about the holidays and this time at the end of the year is that I get to spend time with my niece. She is out of school for winter break and my workload is always a little lighter between Christmas and New Year’s Day. We get to play games, watch our favorites movies and television shows, and get in the kitchen.
This seven year old is going to be a rocking cook. In fact, she already is. I’ve already begun teaching her how to make Grandma’s Pumpkin Bread and she can make cookies/brownies and other fun stuff completely on her own. When I was 7, I certainly didn’t have those skills. Heck, I didn’t have them at 17.
Well, while I was cleaning up the kitchen, I had to keep her busy…as I’m told you have to do with kids or else they are terrors. So, I called in the big guns: my homemade hot chocolate. It’s rich but not too rich and full of chocolate—as hot chocolate should be. It also has a touch of vanilla, which is delicious in hot chocolate. I’ve made this recipe for years but what’s new is the whipped cream.
I’ve started making my own whipped cream because it is so, dang, good. I’ve added in some of BAILEYS Frosted Vanilla Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer to the heavy cream and sugar. Let me tell you: it is so creamy and delicious and when mixed into hot chocolate, it is certainly kid and adult approved!
The Best Homemade Hot Chocolate with Vanilla Sugar Cookie Whipped Cream
Homemade Hot Chocolate
Servings: 4
4 cups milk (I use 2%)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla
6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
In a saucepan on medium heat, whisk together the milk, sugar, vanilla, and cocoa. Bring the hot chocolate to scalding hot (not boiling), whisking occasionally. Serve hot with whipped cream or marshmallows.
Vanilla Sugar Cookie Whipped Cream
Servings: 3-4
3/4 cup heavy cream
4 tbsp granulated sugar
2 tbsp BAILEYS Frosted Vanilla Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer
I love your idea of the Vanilla Sugar Cookie Whipped Cream! What a great way to make a mug of hot chocolate an even more special treat. (And, I agree, homemade whipped cream is the best!) 🙂
Thanks so much, Amanda!
I have never seen BAILEYS Frosted Vanilla Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer in Australia 🙁 But I am going to start a business importing it as it sounds out of this world!!!!
Isn’t Christmas and getting time to spend with your family just the best!!!!
Can’t wait to try this!!!! Maybe in a few months as it is currently 39ºC (102ºF) here!!!!
I make an almost identical hot chocolate, and you are right, it’s so good! I never considered flavoring whipped cream with coffee creamer before, but that’s a brilliant idea. I’m definitely going to have to give it a try!
It’s a shame I won’t be able to buy the bailey’s creamer where I live, I ‘d like to try sugar cookie whipped cream so badly… 🙂
Oh man! You are totally missing out. You should write to Baileys to demand they come your way. Or make sure to visit the states next holiday season!! Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks such much Kelli! I also fixed my FB link. Not sure what happened there but thanks for letting me know!!
This hot chocolate would be perfect on this gloomy, cold rainy day here in LA.
We add a hint of vanilla to our hot cocoa too! It really does make a difference. Love the whipped cream idea. I never would have thought to use creamer in it (though we made ice cream with peppermint mocha creamer not long ago!)
Your niece is a luck girl. Love the mug, too. 🙂
